12 DAY 9: DAY TRIP TO BRNO (AND CASTLE LEDNICE) Breakfast at the hotel. Along with your guide drive for about 1.5hrs to explore the stunning Lednic-Valtice Castle complex. The Valtice-Lednice area is a unique combination of Baroque, classical and neo-Gothic styles. The castles of Lednice and Valtice and their countryside are fashioned according to English romantic principles of landscape architecture. At 200 sq. km, it is one of the largest artificial landscapes in Europe. Here, you will visit the castle and the greenhouse with tropical and subtropical plants (option to take a boat to visit the only minaret in the Czech Republic). The Lednice Castle - built in the English Tudor's Gothic style - is a masterpiece of romantic architecture and also one of the most visited sights in the Czech Republic. The Lednice Castle is surrounded by beautiful Baroque park, with romantic buildings and ponds with artificial islands (boat cruises available). The Palm Green House from the 19th century, which was reconstructed lately, is the oldest building of its type in Europe. Other important sights are Januv Hrad, Temple of Three Graces, Temple of Apollon and the minaret. The Valtice Castle; The double-story baroque castle has a closed central and four-wing layout, encompassing four courtyards. It is situated diagonally, with its entrance portal aiming northeastward. On the north side, underneath the castle, the ground floor and single-story buildings of the stable and riding school were newly built. The Spanish Stable with its state separated grotesque statues as well as the Winter Riding School survived. Both are now used to accommodate various social events, encompassing the courtyard of honour. Continue your tour to Brno and have free time at leisure for lunch (N/I). Afterwards enjoy the sightseeing of Brno - city known for its modernist buildings, like the restored Villa Tugendhat, completed in 1930 by architect Mies van der Rohe. The visit of Villa Tugendhat needs to be reserved well in advance and is subject of availability. The medieval Spilberk Castle houses a city museum, gardens and a former prison with vaulted tunnels. The Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul has baroque altars, a 14th-century statue of the Madonna and Child, and city views from its steeple. Return to Olomouc. Enjoy time at your own leisure. Dinner and overnight in Olomouc. DAY 10: FROM OLOMOUC TO PRAGUE (STOP ON THE WAY IN CASTLE BOUZOV & LUNCH (N/I) After breakfast check out and proceed towards Prague. On the way stop at beautiful Castle Bouzov - a romantic castle built at the turn of the 13th and 14th century is located in the countryside of Litovel and Mohelnice.
